The Christmas Ship Festival is an annual Seattle holiday tradition. Starting the day after Thanksgiving and running through December 23, the Christmas Ship parade route covers over 65 different waterfront communities around Lake Washington and the Puget Sound.

It will be a long time before the world stops feeling the impact of COVID-19, but in the meantime, the Electric Boat Company is committed to keeping our employees and customers safe.

Sanitization of Boats & Offices

Local distilleries (we chose Batch 206 and Fremont Mischief Distillery) have graciously provided Seattle with large amounts of hand sanitizer to combat store shortages. Thanks to these distilleries, we have plenty of industrial-strength disinfectant and hand sanitizer to resume operations and add extra sanitization precautions.

We will provide one travel-size bottle of hand sanitizer to every boat for their use and to take home with them. We will also be thoroughly spraying and wiping down the boats with a disinfecting solution in between reservations.

Open Air Boating

Public health officials in the U.S. are touting the benefits of open windows and fresh air. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends opening windows to reduce the spread of coronaviruses and/or slow the transmission of COVID-19. Our boats will have ALL windows open during business hours to ensure fresh air is moving through the boats.

Check-In Office & Waiting Area Social Distancing

Our entire office has been reorganized following the six-foot standard to ensure customers and our employees have every opportunity to stay safe and we are limiting the number of vessels going out at the same time.

In addition, we have made the necessary decision to permanently close down our yacht club rental space on the docks. This decision was made in order to create additional waiting areas to allow groups to maintain social distancing throughout 2020 and beyond.

Required Masks & Boat Restrictions

Masks are required in our office and on our docks! Please ensure your boat contains no more than five people outside of your household per Governor Inslee’s guidance.

Employee Precautions

Every single one of our employees will be wearing a mask and frequently changed gloves. They will be required to take their temperature at the office every morning and certify that they have had no symptoms in the last 48 hours and have not been in contact with any such person.

We are very proud to have our business built around zero-emission vessels! Because of that, we take reducing waste in the rest of our business very seriously as well. Check out some of the recent changes we’ve made here at The Electric Boat Company.

• Our catering department now uses 100% compostable products
• Last year we took our key office functions, special events, reservations, etc. completely paperless
• We recently replaced the batteries in each of our 25 boats to more efficient and environmentally friendly options. It is always great when a decision can be such a clear cut winner from a financial and environmental perspective
• Heaters on all 25 boats were switched from disposable propane tanks to reusable propane tanks in an effort to further reduce the footprint of our business

We are even exploring the possibility of adding solar power on the boats to steer the boats towards more renewable energy sources. We are always looking for ways to keep our business sustainable and lessen our impact on the community and the wonderful public resource that is Lake Union.

The Electric Boat Company opened an ice cream shop just upstairs from our boat rental dock! Cone & Compass opened its doors on Friday, August 2, and has been busy serving up sweet snacks, drinks, and delicious handmade ice cream!

We’re proud to serve Parfait Ice Cream, made-from-scratch in Ballard. Parfait is a local Farm-to-Table ice creamery that makes and pasteurizes its own ice cream base and works with local farms to ensure the best ingredients. Parfait offers outstanding versions of classic ice cream flavors, chef-inspired seasonal flavors, and delicious dairy-free options.
